The Referendum passed and the additional tax dollars will be available to CCSD 66 beginning May/June 2023.
This school district receives, by far, the largest share of the property taxes you pay annually. Do not be complacent and “assume” the BOE is making good financial decisions, on behalf of the community. What we learned, over the past year, is exactly what happens when no one is “minding the store” – BANKRUPTCY! Now, more than ever, it is imperative to stay engaged and pay attention to how, where and why the new infusion of tax dollars (an extra $2.75M next year) are being spent.

The 2023 $2.75M Property Tax Levy and a new Teachers Contract were approved by the current BOE on 12/14/22. The next property tax bill, coming this Spring, will include ALL the increases. Approximately 70-75% of your total property tax is paid to these 2 local school districts alone – Center Cass SD 66 (will include a 19.82% post referendum increase) and Community HSD 99 (will be levying the the maximum CPI increase).
For CCSD 66, what will be the impact of the (now) approved Teachers Contract increases on the commitments made to make the buildings safer and restore deficient curriculum and educational supplies, district-wide? As salaries increase due to newly set raise levels, so do the (inflated by 6% annually for 4 years) pension obligations. Has the district forecasted these increases into future budgets so it won’t run out of money again?
