Our team has learned that sometime between 10/13 and 10/14, nearly 90% of the opposition’s signs, distributed throughout the community, were stolen. On 10/20, a resident discovered vandalism of their private property. By 10/25/22, signs posted at early local Early Voting locations also disappeared. Every day, more and more supporter signs show up while “Vote No” signs vanish.
Since stealing and vandalizing private property are crimes, police reports were filed. If anyone has information about, or evidence of, this criminal activity, please contact your local police department.
The opposition consists of residents who donated their personal time, professional services, and/or money to support the flow of information that is not being provided by the district, and to counter many of the false narratives and scare tactics being communicated by supporters. The supporters have substantial funding (over $73,000 as of 10/24) from the local Teachers Union (CCEA) and a Political Action Committee (Diogenes PAC), created by three D66 teachers, to fund their many professionally-produced signs, mailers, videos, rallies, events, as well as social media and text message advertising campaigns. They have extensive resources to silence those who have an opposing opinion and are working very hard to censor community members who do not support the referendum.

It is very disheartening to see how this referendum has divided our once quiet community and has incited criminal activity. In addition, the extreme polarization of “sides” has emotions running high and can cause people to make demeaning remarks, act aggressively or post ugly comments on social media. Every voter has personal reasons for making their decision at the polls – that is the beauty of living in a democracy and should be respected. Please do not deface or steal election signs or vandalize private property – not only is it illegal, it sets a poor example for the youngest in our community. Please remember, once Election Day comes and goes, your neighbors will still be your neighbors so take a moment to think before you hit the send button.
Make a deliberate choice to be KIND.
